A breath of fresh air in the deep of winter, they say, this Snow Lantern Festival in Yonezawa City, Japan. Civic groups and circles of friends volunteer to create one of many snow lanterns, and after a few days of fun and work, the night is illuminated with the light of a thousand candles or more. Young lovers take romantic strolls in the night, young families have snow ball fights, and friends drink and sing karaoke before going to see the lanterns. This year, the last day of the festival even coincided with Valentine's Day.
What they don't tell you is that the snow lanterns all look the same and it is pretty much the most boring festival in Japan. However, I will try to make it as entertaining as possible, under the circumstances, so click on the first pic and enjoy!
