The Romanian Orthodox priest arrives and burns incense, or tămâie, over the body.

The widow and other participants mourn as the priest prays for forgiveness for the soul, and to untie the soul from human affairs.

Below, the priest begins the eternal commemoration, or veşnica pomenire. The priest and participants form a human chain by grasping each other and touching a bottle of wine and a colivă, a traditional funeral pudding. They chant "veşnica pomenire" so that the soul is remembered in eternity.
