Firebreathers 1
The drama of the fearless firebreather is a cultural universal. These young men are part of a parade to celebrate Loy Krathong, gulping down kerosene and spitting it out much too close to the crowd. I've gotten in even closer than that, though I followed and watched for about an hour so as to know their habits and my limits--don't want a really expensive, scorched lens.

Definitely the crowd pleaser of the whole show, these men are coming up with every variation for firebreathing they can think of, as well as twirling batons lit on either end... even the young woman who got hit with a stray baton and slightly burned on her leg didn't seem to mind.

This parade is a stop and go affair, moving for maybe tens of meters on a kilometers-long journey around the city, then stopping for maybe ten minutes at a time. This means plenty of time for firebreathing, and by the end of this route, these young men were tired and thirsty... especially thirsty, I think.
