| Ah, what you have been waiting for, the dirtiest secret places that Sapporo has to offer! Deep in the heart of the entertainment district called Susukino you can find various services offered. The business in the foreground, an "Image Club," offers various forms of "play," at 12,000 yen (around 100USD) for 45 minutes. Choose the "sexual harrassment play," the "nurse play," the "man touches woman play," and other "options." I'll leave your imagination to ponder these ones--as mine has. I asked a Japanese colleague the explicit meanings of these kinds of games, but didn't get a very illuminating response. I was, however, forewarned (forearmed?) with some specifics about the famous "soapland." A bath house where the man needs not wash himself, the soapland also offers other services for a tip. Here is the irony, as I see it. The Japanese obsession with cleanliness may be illustrated by this: the word for clean, kirei, is also the word for beautiful. Cleanliness is an important part of aesthetic. The irony then, is that one of the dirtiest practices in Japan involves taking a hot, soapy bath. Having delivered the goods on the secret places in Sapporo at great personal risk, I'll leave you with the next photo. Next: Who's that guy with a broken leg?
