Even before getting to Sapporo, I am using up my precious film. I am boarding the train in my local town of Yonezawa, to meet my colleagues and ride up to the airport, and I spot this very typical Japanese scene.
An older Japanese man, generically known as oyajii, has already cracked his can of beer and is intently reading an illustrated magazine, or manga. Oyajii is a term used by many people to refer to these eldery, uncle-like figures that are so common now that Japan is a graying society.
