There are several of these firepots placed strategically around the shrine, and I took a photo of this elderly man as he warmed himself. I usually ask if I can take a photo of a person, but everybody was so preoccupied with the cold they didn't notice me snapping a few here and there.
Despite the sake I have consumed, I am feeling the cold as well, especially since I have removed my gloves to better work my camera. I moved in next to this man to warm myself, and he smiled at me curiously. I think he knew I took his photo, but he didn't mind at all, and we warmed ourselves together.
